Am I a Terrorist? Am I Anti-Semitic?
"In a religious context, the term Semitic can refer to the religions associated with the speakers of " "In a religious context, the term Semitic can refer to the religions associated with the speakers of these languages thus Judaism, Christianity and Islam are often described as Semitic religions, though the term Abrahamic religions is more commonly used today A truly comprehensive account of Semitic religions would include the Ancient Semitic religions (such as the religions of Adad, Hadad) that flourished in the Middle East before the Abrahamic religions [edit] Geography Semitic peoples and their languages, in both modern and ancient historic times, have covered a broad area bridging Africa, Western Asia and the Arabian Peninsula The earliest historic (written) evidences of them are found in the Fertile Crescent, an area encompassing the Babylonian and Assyrian civilizations along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, extending northwest into southern Asia Minor (modern Turkey) and the Levant along the eastern Mediterranean Early traces of Semitic speakers are found, too, in South Arabian inscriptions in Yemen, Eritrea, Northern Ethiopia and later, in Roman times, in Nabataean inscriptions from Petra (modern Jordan) south into Arabia Later historical Semitic languages also spread into North Africa in two widely separated periods The first expansion occurred with the ancient Phoenicians, along the southern Mediterranean Sea all the way to the Atlantic Ocean (colonies which included ancient Rome's nemesis Carthage) The second, a millennium later, was the expansion of the Muslim armies and Arabic in the 7th-8th centuries AD, which, at their height, controlled the Iberian Peninsula (until 1492) and Sicily Arab Muslim expansion is also responsible for modern Arabic's presence from Mauritania, on the Atlantic coast of West Africa, to the Red Sea in the northeastern corner of Africa, and its reach south along the Nile River through traditionally non-Semitic territory, as far as the northern half of Sudan, where, as the national language, non-Arab Sudanese even farther south must learn it Modern Hebrew was reintroduced in the 20th century, and together with Arabic, is a national language in Israel Western Aramaic dialects remain spoken in Malula near Damascus Eastern Neo-Aramaic is spoken along the northern border of Syria and Iraq and in far northwestern Iran These speakers are often called Chaldean or Neo-Assyrian Mandean is still spoken in parts of southern Iraq Semitic languages and peoples are also found in the Horn of Africa, especially Eritrea and Ethiopia Tigrinya, a North Ethiopic dialect, has around six million speakers in Eritrea and Tigray In Eritrea, Tigre is the language of around 800,000 Muslims Amharic is the national language of Ethiopia and is spoken by at least 10 million Coptic Christians Semitic languages today are also spoken in Malta (where an Italian-influenced language derived from Siculo-Arabic is spoken) and on the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean between Yemen and Somalia, where a dying vestige of South Arabian is spoken in the form of Soqotri" (tümünü göster) Etiketler : palistine depression economic collapse fear peak oil avian flu spiritualism nwo new world order fema camps amero patriot consumer taoism global consciousness wake duality zeitgeist end times 2012 survivalist web bot prepare food storage homesteading change green energy jobs 1939 stock market crash recession economy crisis 911

my speech for the rally tomorrow!
"THE RALLY KICKED ASS! (I don't need help anymore, but thank you all who chipped in - I was able to " "THE RALLY KICKED ASS! (I don't need help anymore, but thank you all who chipped in - I was able to check my comments w/my cell phone, and I made a few minor tweaks based on what some of you said) Thomas Jefferson once said Religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of building a wall of separation between church and State The United States Constitution makes no mention of 'God' or 'Christianity' When it DOES mention religion, it is restrictive, such as no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust in Article IV or Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof in the First Amendment Keeping government and religion isolated allows all of us to worship as we wish I live in the city of Houston, and I know of at least ten churches that are all within a ten minute drive from my apartment - even in bad traffic Different denominations, different languages, presumably with different doctrines and different congregations My family and I are free to go to any, all, or none of these, as we see fit Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion They are two sides of the same coin - you cannot have one without the other Yet all around us, we see - arguably subtle, but definite - violations of this - dare I say 'sacred' freedom The addition of In God we Trust on our coins in 1864, our dollar bills in 1957, the insertion of under God into the national pledge of allegiance in 1954, and our state pledge this year, are direct - if minute - infusions of religion into the public sphere It is all too easy to dismiss this as innocuous enough - what could be more all-emcompassing and inclusively vague than simply saying 'God' and leaving it up to each individual to interpret what 'God' means to them? The belief in a single deity is a tenet of the great Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, which does include the majority of Americans However, the idea does conflict with the beliefs of other religions Buddhists don't all believe in a personal deity; Hindus believe in many deities Wiccans believe in a Goddess Even if we acknowledge the imposition, it is easy to write it off as inconsequential It's just a few words here and there - what's the big deal? I can see at least two ways of answering this Let's look at the legislation putting under God into the state pledge of allegiance, through the lens of the Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court The Lemon test was established by the Supreme Court in the case of Lemon v Kurtzman in 1971 to discern wether or not a law complies with the First Amendment To pass the test, a law must 1 have a secular purpose 2 have a primary effect which neither advances nor inhibits religion 3 avoid excessive entanglement of church and state The bill that added 'under God' to the state pledge clearly fails the test on at least the first two counts, and arguably the third Putting the legal argument aside, I can't help but ask How would you feel if our pledge said 'One nation, OVER God', or our dollar bills said 'In Atheism We Trust'? It doesn't have quite the same ring, does it? We are all free to worship - or not worship - as we please in our private lives Yet we are free to do so precisely because we live in a secular nation All of us - those with faith, as well as those without - should be opposed to any intersection of church and state, no matter how small I'm going to close with a classic from Thomas Paine He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself" (tümünü göster) Etiketler : church state separation rally austin texas god pledge constitution

"Steve Schlissel In order to answer the question, we really need to get over the idea that we have un" "Steve Schlissel In order to answer the question, we really need to get over the idea that we have unbound latitudinarian tolerance No culture does Every single culture has restrictions For example, there are groups that want to offer child sacrifice We don't permit that There are groups that want to offer public sacrifices of animals today Now in the Old Testament we had it, but Christian societies today forbid it (By and large There are little exceptions around the globe) So we don't have tolerance for every group But we could have tolerance for those who have formal allegiance to the God of the Bible Some might include Muslims in that because they say that the God they worship is the God therein revealed Certainly, many more would be sympathetic to Jews worshipping with freedom of conscience But the idea is not we would go into the home and regulate the worship in the home or the thoughts of the people There is an old story about Abraham that is told by the rabbis They say that an Arab visitor came to him one day and he extended typical eastern hosptiality He said, Come into my tent my friend The sat down at a meal and Abraham set about to witness to him to find out what his religious convictions were The Arab told him, Oh, I'm an idolater and here are some of my idols Abraham became indignant, furious, and threw him out of his tent and chased him into the desert And God, the rabbis say, came to visit Abraham and asked him, Abraham, how old was that man? Abraham said, He was about eighty And how long was he with you, Abraham? Oh, about five minutes And what did you do? I threw him out, Abraham answered God said, I've been bearing with that man for eighty years and you couldn't bear with him for five minutes The lesson is that we need to be tolerant to understand that it is the Lord who gives faith We have to give wide berth to the working of the Spirit to bring that about With a Christian consensus and with a strong Christian conviction our tolerance can be considerable It's when we are weak that we tend to overact and have knee-jerk reactions to other faiths But nevertheless the laws would have to be Christian laws that govern the land" (tümünü göster) Etiketler : Steve Schlissel Messiah Gods Law Society
